From The Beginning!!! |
| In the middle of 2002 my dad decided that he was going to buy a lower level sports car just to have fun with on the weekends. Well, my dad picked up a magazine that had the top rated performance and all around cars for under 25k. Sitting there in 3rd place was the 99+ v6 mustang. four wheel disc brakes, light weight, good handling, and a 190hp base engine, ran 15.5 1/4 mile times stock, not to mention a T-5 transmission that came also in the late 80's and early 90's 5.0 fox bodies. Having a tranny that could support 320 torque is a good base to have in a car starting out especially the v6 model. My dad final found one after 3 months of looking for the right one at a dealers auction that his friend had been frequenting. The car cost 9.5k with 22k miles on it. To my liking a black mustang was what my dad ended up purchasing. My dad's goal with this car was to run some high 14's, which happened shortly after we bought the car. CAI, Gt-take offs, 25% UDP, short throw shifter and a tune and we hit 14.7 in the 1/4. Shortly after that he offered the car to me at a messily 2k, which was the earnings I had from my summer job. From the minute I saw my dad buy the car I fell in love with the 99-04 mustang body style. So needless to say it was an instant yes. From there my goals were much higher than his started out to be. My personal goal for the car to start off was to get the v6 into the 13's and I would call me happy. We went all the way N/A with the car, cam/heads, gears w/ T-lock, basically the whole nine yards without boring the block. never did get out of the 14's though because I bent a valve in the heads and didn't realize it until the blower was going on. The blower came into play because we had the car up for sell, for the reason of I was wanting to get a GT mustang. My dad tells me that we can sell the car and get a GT mustang or we can supercharge the v6 mustang. Naturally I went for the v6 supercharged. From there my goal went to running mid 12's with the new blower on the 3.8L. I went 13.3@107.34mph, but never got into the 12's for lack of time at the track. Road on that setup for about one year and ended up blowing my motor by way of bent rods. (do to a bad computer sending twice the air flow reading than what the car was actually doing). I decided then to Forge the engine and bore the motor to a 4.2L v6. With this new setup my goal was to hit low 12's or possibly 11's if things went right. Completed the tuning and got a healthy and safe 385rwhp/351rwtq on 91 octane gas and 17*timing. That's where I stand at the present time. My goals have not changed, but I am satisfied for now and have plans to go for more at a later date.
Be careful of the Addiction of modding cars...(I have the disease) The Sky Is The Limit!!!!
Continued....2/1/08 It has been awhile since I made the numbers of 385rwhp/351rwtq. The satisfied for now statement I made previously can only be said for so long. I made the decision to go from 11psi to 15psi on my p-1sc procharger. So I got on the phone and contacted Reichard Racing, who are well known for their supercharger pulley among other things. I ended Originally planned to go with a 3.1 diameter pulley which would have pushed 16psi. Reichard Racing only had down to a 3.2 diameter at the time I was wanting to buy, And would not receive any 3.1 diameter pulley in for another month. That was to long for my taste, so The 3.2 15psi pulley was ordered.
I also in this process decided to go with a new tuner for the new addition to my setup. I will probably never be truly done with my car and needed a tuner that I could afford to stay with all the modding I do. I called HPP Motorsports out of Lewisville, Texas and talked with them about what I wanted to do. I was recommended to them by a Friend of mine that has used them for many years with not one complaint on his shoulders. It was done, I set a date for 1/10/08 to have manny at HPP tune my mustang. Nothing ever comes easy to those who go big. I ended up running out of injector at around the 5200 rpm mark. So, the upgrade to 60lb injectors on my little old v6 mustang was going to have to happen. The injectors fixed the problem and my air/fuel ratio has never looked better. Well, the results were awesome. Stangcharger ended up making a head turning 436rwhp/378rwtq on 91oct + torco. On the 91oct pump gas alone we made 406rwhp/376rwtq. Keep in mind this was still with stock factory intake manifolds. Big thanks to manny and the guys at HPP Motorsports for their great service and hospitality.
Next mod will be the extrude honing of the upper and lower intake manifolds......
